Beta

Is there any point going beta on Blogger?

I keep reading about it, but I'm a bit of technological disaster really and I don't much understand it.

Can anyone who's done it and survived tell me whether it will make much of a difference to the life (and blog) of a person who is a mere common or garden geek rather than a certified computer geek? Does it contain really cool stuff that I will instantly enjoy using? Or will it prove to be a giant step backwards in the evolution of my own personal corner of the blogosphere?

In short, are there any useful layperson's reviews out there?

TIAs everyone!

I've moved to betablogger, and although there are some nice features (much more control over what is shown and how it is shown, links management etc., there are MANY bugs and often it is completely impossible to upload, some times for a few DAYS. And.... you cannot (repeat NOT)go back to the old blogger even if the new one is no good to you.
I am ok with technology and have no problems writing a little code now and then, but the bugs that have not been solved as yet are many.
If you are somewhat technically challenged my advice is to wait, until more bugs have been fixed and the user interface has been improved.

Good luck.

If you like, drop me a line in a few weeks and i'll let you know how its coming along.

Yudit thanks!!
That is as much as I need to know to stay away in the meantime. I'm perfectly happy with the way this little blog operates right now, and if the new version requires me to fix bugs, I'd probably never end up blogging at all, as I am indeed, technically-, and not just nominally-, challenged.
Good for you to be braving the new system though :) and hope that the bugs aren't too problematic.

A bit late but I've been in the land of analog modems and thus not reading much:

Other than the bugs and the inability to swith back, there is a further problem: once beta'ed, you can only comment on other beta blogs, and non-betas cannot comment on yours.

I would recommend not switching, but rather waiting until it is no longer beta but "real" - and at that point Blogger will do the switching for you.

John and Udge,
Thanks for confirming my fears. I think I will stay in the shallow water for the time being. It's nice here, and I can still see my feet. :)
